Description

A comforting casserole that combines tender sliced potatoes with the rich flavors of French onion soup, topped with melted cheese and crispy fried onions. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks.


Ingredients

6 medium potatoes, thinly sliced

2 cans French onion soup

1 cup heavy cream

2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

1 cup crispy fried onions

2 tablespoons fresh thyme

Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Layer half the sliced potatoes in the dish, season with salt and pepper. Pour one can of soup and half the cream over potatoes.

Add remaining potatoes, soup, and cream. Top with Gruyere cheese and thyme.

Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, add crispy onions, and bake uncovered for 15 minutes until golden.


Notes

Slice potatoes uniformly (about 1/8 inch thick) for even cooking

Can substitute Gruyere with Swiss cheese

Make ahead: Assemble up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerate, then bake
